i have a 996 installed on my '83 chevy c-10. the truck had a blown fuse for a about 3mths that prevented the dome light from working. at the same time the 996 wasn't responding at all. so i replaced fuse, reset 996 at power source, alarm triggered, turned key on,pressed valet to disarm, replaced batteries in remotes and it still wont read remotes when i try to program them. i get the single chirp after i press the valet 3 times, then hold lock button and nothing happens-10 secs are up-what gives?

bruce0685-

There are 2 obvious areas to check: the remote and the antenna.

As far as the remote, you may want to visit your local AutoZone--they have a tester at the battery display, where you can confirm the remote output is working properly.

Also, I would check the antenna connection at the brain and at the antenna.  If the connections are good, you may also want to confirm the antenna cable is not pinched or cut --have you had your windshield replaced by chance since the aps 996 was last working?
