hey all, maybe Chris Luongo can help me with this one, but anyone that has any info, please chime in.

So i have this starter and keyless entry unit hooked up to a 93 prelude (auto). The door locks, parking lights, and shutdown all work, however when i start the thing, it grinds like hell, turns off, then trys to start again.

I have programmed the tach already(programmed sucessful), but it grinds badly and attempts to start 3 times. The vehicle does start, but does not stay running, and starter re engages. There is no bypass needed so i can rule that out.

I have tried pit stop mode, with the key in the ignition, press start 2 times to keep it running, it undergoes the remote start sequence and grinds the starter.

For the life of me, i dont even know how to program this thing because its more confusing than ever before. The manual is poorly written (as many already heard)., so with that being said, how do you even get into programming BANK 3, i want to set it to voltage and see if i can rule out problems.

thanks all

Tedmond-

Sounds like you may have the wrong tach wire.  I recommend also checking the ignition wire connection (this might cause grinding in pit stop mode).       I agree the APS57A documentation is horribly written and confusing.

To get to Bank 3,   follow these steps:

1.) turn the ignition to ON.   Press the pushbutton programming switch 3 times.  The parking lights will flash once.

2.) turn the ignition switch off, then on.  This puts you in bank 2.  I believe the parking lights flash 2x once during the off and once during on transition.  You can press the pushbutton programming switch once to see the door lock programming setting--it will flash the parking lights to indicate that setting--as I recall, I believe that is the only feature in Bank 2 on the APS57A.

3.) once again, turn the ignition switch off then on.  This puts you in bank 3.  I believe the parking lights flash once during the during on transition.   You can press the pushbutton programming switch 5 times to see the tach programming setting--it will flash the parking lights 2x to indicate the tach setting.  Press the lock button on your remote twice to change the setting to voltage mode--first press sets the unit to DBI tach (3 flashes), then to voltage (1 flash).

Once configured, you can turn the ignition off and within a few seconds, the parking lights will flash indicating you are out of programming mode.

Because the unit uses crank averaging, you need to start the vehicle with the key four times before voltage mode will work properly.

If this doesn't work, go back into Bank 3 and press the pushbutton switch 9 times.  This is the Diagnostics location.  Press the lock button on your remote to enable the Diagnostics--this will flash the parking lights to indicate the last shutdown reason:

1 Flash 5, 10, 15, or 20, minute run timer expired.

2 Flashes Low or No tach signal received.

3 Flashes Positive input shut down.

4 Flashes Control switch was moved to "Off" position.

5 Flashes RF Shutdown command received.

6 Flashes High RPM signal over speed shut down.

7 Flashes Tach has NOT learned.

8 Flashes Negative input shut down

I hope this helps.
