remote start for 2008 pathfinder?

Newb here.  Glad I found this forum.  I am looking at the Avital 4003 remote start module for my 2008 Nissan Pathfinder.  I want to use the factory remote to add this unit.  I called a local shop here and they want $260 plus tax to install this unit.  They said I will need a CAN-SL bypass module, which was $100 (Included for the install price of $260).

I am pretty handy and I think I should be able to install this unit relatively easy with a little assistance.  As far as the CAN-SL bypass module, is this something I need to bring somewhere to get programmed or is it plug-and-play?  I can buy the unit on EBay for about $60 brand new and the CAN-SL for about $40.  I would like to install it to save the $160 (plus tax) and also because I like tinkering with things.

Does anyone have any insight on this?  Is there anything else I need to do or know?  Thanks.

Does the Pathfinder have the factory alarm? 

Do your current factory keyless entry FOB's have good range?   Do they unlock the doors while the engine is running with the key in the ignition?

The Fortin CAN SL2 is a good choice and it can do more than just the immobilizer bypass.  It comes already programmed.  For a little more money you could get a remote start / keyless entry system that would have a better range and give you 2 new remote FOB's that would do everything.

The $260 install price is reasonable and would give you a warranty.  Most name brand remote start systems come with a good warranty if they are installed by an authorized dealer. 

If you D I Y, you will need a Digital Multi-Meter and a soldering iron / gun.

Yes, the car has a factory alarm.  The range of the factory remote is actually pretty decent.

I do have a multi-meeter and soldering gun, so I think I am ready to go. 

Is this a difficult job?  I was an electronics technician so I have a pretty decent understanding of electronics.

As far as remote starts go, it's not that difficult. But for someone thats never done one it may be tough. +Park lights and +brake are in a white plug near the diagnostic plug red and light green and the ignition harness is actually in the drivers kick panel (it's much easier to access there). The only wire from the ignition that's not in the kick is the second start wire (light green) this will have to be tapped into at the ignition switch. The driver door lock actuator wire (purple) is also in the driver"s kick. You can use this to trigger the remote start. The can sl-2 module will provide a reliable tach source and a hood pin output so you won't need to run wires into the engine compartment. The range of the nissan remote is usually pretty good but you should be testing it out now to make sure it's going to be sufficient.
