I want to get a remote start for my focus but after doing some research Im now more confused than when I started. I have put remote starts in other cars but this is the first that has the transponder keys. I dont know which transponder module to get to go with each remote start. Im just looking to get something that has remote start, keyless entry and a trunk relase and possibly a way to turn on the rear defrost when its cold out.

Generally speaking a data bypass will be more reliable than a chip based override. Both the key-override sl and the idatalink ads-tb work great.

I put a Viper 5701 in my daughters 05 Focus a couple of months ago and it was fairly easy.  I used a Fortin Key Override SL2 which had very good instructions.

Biggest goof-up I had was I used the wrong transponder wires. I believe the tx and rs wires were WHITE/ lt green and gray/orange. I went down the steering colume and grabbed two wires the excate same color but were a slightly heaver gauge. Of course the were the wrong ones and the by pass would not work. After 6 times of trying, I backed up to verify the wires, found the correct ones and it programed on the next try.

Most of the wires were pretty easy to get at.

For the rear window defrost, I ran the viper wire to the switch on the dash.

When all else fails, Read the Instructions

Did a 2008 Focus recently.  Expect to find thin gauge wires at ignition switch.  For the Tach signal, go to any Fuel Injector & use the "not Blue" wire.

DEI 1100F bypass worked fine.  Very easy to install & program but you must have 2 working non-clone keys to program.  While the colors may vary, this Focus had TX on Pin 3 and was Violet/Gray.  RX was on Pin 4 and was Yellow/Orange.  This bypass might still be available in the Buy and Sell forum on this site for $15.

Soldering is fun!
