adding remote starter to oem alarm

I'm about to do my first remote start installation on an '07 Ford Escape. It already has a factory OEM alarm installed. The remote starter is a ProStart CT-3471. My question is, do I need to connect the door pins wires to the remote starter? My understanding is that all I need to do is arm/disarm the OEM alarm and it will handle monitoring the door pins and sounding the alarm if necessary. The remote starter has a door pin input but I'm thinking that's for use only if you don't already have an alarm and want the starter to act as one. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks, Brian

ive just had a quick look at the manual online at the manufacturers site and according to that you should have a neg and pos door pin wire, from what the document says these are to use for domelight activation depending on whether it is a pos or neg signal used to turn it on when a door is opened, so it depends if you want the domelight to come on/go off when you arm or disarm.apart from the arm/disarm wires going to the vehicle wires at the bcm you will also have the lock/unlock wires as well and the hoodpin is definately needed as a safety feature just incase you manage to hit the button on the remote whilst working under the hood.other than that its just the r/s wires and the bypass

Thanks Tony, So I only need the door pin if the domelight comes on under remote start and I don't want that. I read somewhere else in this forum that if the domelight comes on, some cars will turn it off if a door is opened and then closed, so I could use the door pin to simulate this if necessary.

the door pin wire is used if you want the domelight to come on when you hit unlock on the remote and to turn it off when you hit lock,thats my understanding after perusing the manual,pretty much the same as the domelight supervision wire on my viper, when i hit unlock it turns the domelight on before ive even opened a door and turns it off after ive closed the last door and hit lock.

you dont need to hook up the alarm disarm wire. the 07 Escape will not set off the alarm during remote start. as tony said the domelight turn on (domelight supervision) is optional
