Hey all, just trying to get a feeling for how much money people are charging or paying for remote starts with bypass and installs, with locks/ trunk, but no added security system.

Whatever you think your skill is worth, charge, it's what i do and it's either they pay or they don't.

Around here,Northern WI.A dealer will charge around $200.00. for labor only. What u can do is call a dealer near u and tell them your thinking of having a remote installed in your car,and ask them a price.

Don't take this personally but you one should charge based on Experience, quality of product and quality of installation. If your at the point that your not even sure what to charge then your definitely NOT an authorized dealer of ANY major or reputable brand nor have enough experience in a professional shop to warrant charging people to install products in their vehicles. Don't get in over your head because shops like mine charge extra to fix other peoples inexperience and mistakes.

theres already a thread about this.

I agree with tonanzith, if you have no idea what you should be charging, youre in way over your head if you plan to install. If you are just a consumer and looking for prices, call up a shop and find out. it will vary from shop to shop as one might be better than the other (based on products, service, etc)

both threads offer some good advice, but i need some part time installer advice/prices. I work full time as an electrician(& no, just because I am an electrician i don't think i can install just about anything and everything) I enjoy installing and tinting as my hobby. I only take on the jobs i am confident i can accomplish. I always tell my potential clients that 1- i only warranty my install (not products installed) 2- i crimp the majority(i know someone is frowning) of my installs, 3- i take my time, i don't have customers waiting in a bay, so i tell them don't rush me, 4- i really don't do any major installs which require bypass modules, because i don't have the material/equipment if i need to flash them online. so my question is do major shops charge hourly per install? and whats the average charge for shop materials? i need to start charging this with my installs, materials keep going up and up.
my rates are:
basic car alarm w/ keyless, starter kill etc 125$
basic car alarm w/ RS       165$
replace oem decks with after market   45$
door speakers/ 60$ pair
tint (varies per vehicle) 50-200$
Now before anybody gets upset, this is not an advertisement of my services, nor do i want to take away any work from the local mom n pop install shops( i often refer my clients back to these shops and or buy products from). I am only curios to see if these prices seem fair. thank you for your advice
Go BIG or go Home                                    it might not be broke, but lets fix it anyway
