Hi guys

Having a problem with my 2005 ford f150,I had a autostart AS-2471TW-FM professionaly installed about 3 years ago and every thing worked fine for about 2 years then it started giving me problems when it would get below -30c it would just stop running after it has been started from the remote, sometimes it runs for 20 seconds or it runs for 5 minutes, when it is started at -20c and above it seems to run its proper 15 minutes but when you start it again it shuts off again,

I have contacted autostart and they suggested a new tach point witch i changed to a new injector, then they said maybe I have a bad box so I bought a new one and the same thing is happening,It seems to be a power issue when I open the door somrtimes the engine stops or I put on the heated seats it dies also,I have run  a new power wire directly to the battery, changed the battery, checked all connections and grounds, reset the box and set up the idle setting.not sure were to go next, any suggestions would be great I am running out of ideas.

Thanks Steve

If it was installed by a pro i would take it back to them to fix it. if you wanna take care of it yourself then lets find out a bit more.

are the connections soldered or did they twist and tape or use t-taps?

what type of PATS bypass is in the truck? - might be an issue with that

where is the ground? - if its not screwed to a spot in the kick panel with the paint scraped away and a lock washer usedd it isnt the best ground. gotta have just as good ground as you do power source or it wont work properly.

i'm not familiar with this model R/S, does it have an option to run by voltage sense versus tach? tach is always a better option but if you try voltage and it works okay then that will narrow down where the issue is

Thanx blanx 218 for the reply

I cant take it back as I live in a remote part of the north in Canada and I was installed in the south,All the connections are soldered and taped, not sure of what kind of pats system it has,the ground is screwed in under the steering colom,I will move the ground to the kick panel as you suggested,I am pretty sure it only has a tach setup. Thanks for the help.

How strong is the battery in your truck?  Has it been jumped since you started having problems?  Can you get to a shop to have it tested?    I've seen these trucks give issues like what you're describing and when the battery was replaced everything worked just fine.

Another thing to try would be shutdown diagnostics if its available. Check your manual to see if its an option. Also check the theft light on the dash to see if its blinking when the truck shuts off

Hi guys

Just to let you know I found the problem with my setup,I had a led 3rd brake light that I installed last year and noticed that the cruise control did not work,I found out that this was common with these led 3rd brake lights,it was no big deal for me,so now after I disconected it,everything works fine, just thought I would let other people know if they are a having the same problems as I had. It realy sucks I chased this problem for a long time and it was very frustrating just to find out it was a simple thing like that POS led light.
