I have an Astroflex 4204U in an '07 Toyota Highlander. It has a "key coffin" wired to the unit, and a chipped key in the box, but when I hit the start button, it will only crank, not start. When I place that same key in the ignition, the autostart works fine, so I know the key is not the problem. I have also checked continuity of the wire going around the ignition switch, and it is good. I reprogrammed the remote to the system, and that didn't help. Everything else works like it should, just not the most important feature!
Astroflex dealer said "bring it on it, buy a new security module, pay us an hour of shop time and we'll get it working for you." I'm a DIY type of guy, so that didn't appeal to me so much. Got the car used, had to buy a new remote for the system and now this. Is this fixable?

OK, so your remote start works fine if you leave a key in the cylinder. This tells you that the wiring to the vehicle's ignition harness is OK, and the bypass is probably where your problem is.
To start troubleshooting I would suggest trying a few things:
Have you tried re-positioning the ring you put around the key cylinder? Sometimes these can be finicky to say the least. I would suggest looking into a data based transponder bypass. Like this one.
Have you verified the ground when running, and power/ground wires to the bypass?
Installer, IT support, and FFL. I need less hobbies.

That seemed to do the trick. I cleaned the contacts on the back of the circuit board in the key coffin, and now it's working. Thanks.
