Basically, I would like to trick my alarm into thinking the door is open...so it won't auto-arm itself (sometimes). I was going to hook up a switch, with one half to ground, and the other half to the door trigger wire on the alarm. This way, if I "flicked the switch", the alarm would think the door was open and not arm.
Just some more information....Yes, I would like to keep the "auto-arm" function turned on. Yes, I already tried turning on the domelight to see if that would do it..and it doesn't. So I just want to install a quick switch to do this. Sometimes, when I'm in the car, I just don't want it to arm, and I don't feel like putting it in Valet. Is this a correct fix?
Thanks!

what kind of car is it and do you have the right trigger wire hooked up??
if so then the alarm shouldnt arm with the door open.

No no, I have the alarm installed right....it doesn't arm itself when the door is open. That's part is fine. What I want is to make the alarm think the door is open when it really isn't. So, say I'm sitting in the car talking to someone (and the car is off), and I don't want the alarm to arm...I want to flick the switch so it won't do arm.

When your sitting in the car turn the ignition on and then off. The alarm won't arm itself until you open and close a door.
This will work with most alarms...what alarm do you have?

if you use a switch and hook it up to show a ground them the dome light wire will turn on when the switch is in use.
you can change it to active arming, but you have to turn it on each time you leave the car.
Good Luck

JWorm....yes, but sometimes I want to get out and not have it arm. For example....when getting gas and I get out to clean the windows...I just want to make sure I don't get locked out of the car if I leave the keys in it.
draasch, that's just what I wanted to double check. If I put a switch in there to show negative to the alarm's door wire, if it would think the door is open. I realize the domelight would go on, that's okHow to make your alarm think door is open -- posted image. Cool.

The domelight wouldn't have to go on. You would just need to add a diode inline on the door trigger wire of the alarm. Stripe side away from the alarm brain, and connect your "switched" ground wire between the diode and the alarm brain.
I'm assuming your car has negative door triggers....
Another option.....does your instrument cluster have a light that turns on when you open the fuel filler door? If so it could be connected to the alarm and then it won't passive arm while your getting gas.
