Hi all,
I'm looking to install a keyless remote system with trunk and door actuators to my newly acquired 1976 BMW 2002. I was able to find the wiring schematic and wire color charts, so I'm good there. What I'd like to know is the following:
1) How do you know if the car's electrical system is negatively grounded? Is there a way to test?
2) The door to body does not have the rubber boot connector (what's it called?) that connects the body to the door. I'd like to run the wires through a protective covering. I have had zero luck finding it for sale, let alone finding the right term for this piece. I really don't want to go to a junkyard and pull it either. Does anyone have a good source for this part?
Thanks in advance,
Bob

It was NEG. just look at the bloody car battery, if you have to ask this question should you be attempting this?
No door boot because when it was made there was nothing in the door, neither power locks nor power windows, they never appeared till about 83 on the E30.
Try Metra, Scosche etc. for a door boot or just do what the rest of us did, grommets and sleeving.

howie,
well its wonderful to know that there are crusty veteran installers on the other side of the atlantic too! simply, i asked two questions because i'm learning, not because I decided to wiz you off. of course i know that they didn't come with boots, i want to make a nice clean install.
and yes i am going to attempt this. i'm not making a thermonuclear trigger device, it's a freakin' keyless remote so have a pint, as they say in your country. over here we say "chill the hell out" :) Have a nice day, chap.
