This past weekend, the dealer decided not to install my viper 5901 since the main unit box was different than the one from bestbuy. I bought my alarm  from amazon since its cheaper. I wanted to know if the viper 5901 unit box is the same as mine?

Here is mine

I would have to see the side inputs but just from looking at it it appears to be the same. I imagine the reason they won't install it is because you didn't buy it from them. Looks like you better brush up on your 12 volt skills or buy one from BestBuy.

My two big concerns are that it doesn't have a brand name on it and it doesn't have a valid part number on it. Viper has a 5101, a 5301, a 5501, 5601, 5701 and a 5901. The series can generically be referenced as the 5x01 family (Python has the 5x02 series). I would be suspicious that it is a counterfeit unit. What do the remotes look like? What all features does the alarm have? What does the box look like that it came in?
I would return the unit to the seller and purchase one from a trusted source. If saving money is a big concern, like mentioned above, perhaps you should consider installing it yourself (which is against Directeds policy). A basic alarm install isn't too bad in a Z.

How did you know I have a Z? I never said anything about my car. You must be a mind reader.

I actually responded to your thread on a Z forum yesterday (same user name as here). Today when I opened this thread I noticed the pictures were the same.

lol fair enough.

So the company called me and told me since the 5901 was made at sept 2010 the main unit box 5901 was designed for 5901 while the 5902 box was designed for 5902. But my box that I recieved was designed for both 5901 & 5902. So i will receive a notice from viper to show that this is true to the manager so that they can install the alarm system. What a relief...
