I have installed a few basic alarms remote starts in my life. Installed a Viper 5601 into my Wife's 1999 Buick Regal over the weekend. Alarm/keyless/remote start all work. I hooked up the trunk pop to the relay behind the trunk. I have to hold the remote button down for 5 seconds before it pops the trunk. Do i need to install a relay between the remote start brain and the stock relay? I also want to Hook up the remote start rear defogger option. Do i need a relay? If so how to wire the pins, and does anyone know the location and color of the rear defogger wire i need to tap into? Any help will be appreciated

They do not want the trunk to pop if you accidentally press the button.   That is the reason it takes 5 seconds.

That is the reason as stated by IAAI, however if you would like instant access, just switch the trigger to a programmable auxillary output, never liked this much either, lol, with clifford it's instant.

as for the trunk popper, if you install the relay at the factory switch location in a way that mimmicks the switch contacts closing, the factory wiring will still keep you from popping it when the car is in gear.

sometimes on DEI remotes, the trunk button has a second function that happens when you only push it for about a second.

for instance, my old viper 550ESP remote omits arming and disarming chirps when you just press it for a second.
