My buddy bought a truck with the python 881xp in it. He purchased the remote but the module is shot. Or we think. Is there something the previous owner could have done to totally disarm it? fuses good. The model is discontinued. Does anyone know where he could get a module? Do other Python modules use the same wire harnesses where we could just unplug and plug in? Any help would be great. I talked him into buying the remote and now the unit doesn't work.

Did you program the remote to the module?  Are you able to find the valet/program button?  The downloads section of this site has the install manual for the 881 which might be helpful.

yes, tried to program it but when I would press the valet button, nothing. checked wires and fuses. unplugged and plugged the harnesses in. I'm pretty much looking for a quick fix. Or replace module.

Are you following the steps in the installation manual starting on page 35?     You should get some king of horn/siren honk/chirp and flashes on the LED.  Even one indicating that the unit is locked by a bitwriter.

No siren, chirp, LED, nothing. With a bitwriter, will that tell if the wiring is ok? If the wiring is ok. Then I'll try to find another module.

I would get a DMM and start checking for 12 volts on the H1/11 Red wire. Make sure you have a solid ground on H1/8 wire. Also check for 12 volts on the heavy gauge wires, 2 Red and the 1 RED / White. If they check out good, I would say to check e-bay for a unit or replace it with a different model. If the 881 was installed properly, you would need only to match up the wires with the replacement unit.   The BitWriter will not tell you if the wiring is OK.

Thanks Smokeman, I will check that out over the weekend. When I looked at the wiring, those clip connection things were used. So even if the thing was wired wrong, if I had power going into the module(if good) I would still get something out of it,LED,chirp honk, flash, correct?
