50.7x remote start failure?

I just installed the clifford 50.7x in my 81 corvette, everything works great except for the remote start it will not run for the minimum of 12 minutes but shuts down after about 8 minutes and this is with a cold start if I start it again and again it will only run for about a minute before shutting down, is this a bad ground wire? I find it hard to believe that it is the brain shutting down on its own, this is only an issue when the car is warmed up, the brain doesn't know when the car has warmed up, what am I missing here? I find it hard to believe the brain is defective, the first time I ran it it went through the 12 minute cycle before shutting down, so what gives???81fastvette

I ask because I would assume that as the car warms up the idle RPM drops which may make the remote start think the car has shut off. It may be as simple as relearning the tach signal with the car warmed up already.Kevin Pierson

The tach wire is connected directly to the tach at the distributor. I had it learn the tach again as I had disconnected the battery many times during install, the car started and ran through the 12 minute cycle perfectly on the fourth try it went back to running for less than a minute, did I get a defective alarm? I got it off of buy.com I can't put the alarm in tach checking mode as it won't allow it so it is in voltage checking mode also I have set it to lock the doors with ign on but it doesn't lock the doors. Do I have a defective alarm and if so is this common, I would like to have it run consistently for more than 1 minute. If this is not common I could buy another brain if necessary as I am already all wired up.81fastvette

I don't think it is a defective alarm - everything seems to work. If defective it would be a "logic" problem which is virtually non existent in todays electronics. If you have it in voltage mode then you are not using the tach wire, even if it is hooked up. I would switch it to tach mode and see if the problem goes away. What is the voltage when the car is only running for one minute? When it shuts down, if you do nothing, does it try to restart? Also, these have shutdown diagnostics built in - why does it say it is shutting down?Kevin Pierson

The alarm will not allow me to put it into tach mode, when I hold down the control button and then hold down the lock key on the remote 3 beeps is the most I can get out of the siren and then it cycles back around to 1 beep, 4 beeps are required to be in tach mode. When the car shuts off after a minute or less it gives no report, the lights do not flash it just shuts off and does not try to restart should I ground directly to the battery?81fastvette

Does anybody know why I am not able to put engine checking into tach mode on my dei alarm? I am only able to choose from virtual tach, alternator and off, have it in alt mode, just discovered it will stay running if I put my foot on the gas pedal. Am I missing something here? I sure would like to see it run out the full 12 minutes. 81fastvette

Anyone else having a hard time getting their dei alarm to go into tach reading mode = 4 beeps or is it just me? I believe my car will run out the 12 minutes in virtual tach mode but it also over cranks but this can be adjusted with a bit writer for a charge I am sure, probably cheaper than a new alarm.81fastvette

i had the same problem, it wouldnt go into tach mode. i ended up using a bit writer to change it.Ted

Can a dei alarm be put into tach mode with a bit writer and if so where can I get a bit writer or have this done? I either need to be in tach mode or in virtual tach mode with the cranking time adjusted as it over cranks, it doesn't like alternator mode apparently.81fastvette
