hi i have a audiovox aps996 with 5bcr pager
the pager works for for unlocking or locking the car
but if the alarm goes off or anything the pager screen does not display that
i have the time and the battery life on the screen with a speaker icon and a unlocked lock
the remote does nothing else any help to make it show pages?

There are 2 obvious areas to check: the remote and the antenna.

As far as the remote, from what you describe, it transmits fine, just not receiving status from the unit. I would first confirm the battery is good (obvious and easy).

Next,  I would check the antenna connection at the brain and at the antenna, making certain they are fully seated/plugged in.  If the connections are good, you may also want to confirm the antenna cable is not pinched or cut --have you had your windshield replaced by chance since the aps 996 was last working?

If the remote battery and antenna connections are good, I would try reprogramming the remotes to the APS996.

First, you need to erase the current programmed transmitters:

---Turn the ignition to "ON".  Press the programming pushbutton switch 3 times; you will hear 1 chirp from the horn.

---Press the unlock key (yes, the unlock key, which is programmed to channel 2), and you will hear a horn honk indicating the unlock is already programmed to another channel;   Press unlock again and you will hear 1 long chirp from the horn and the unit will erase all remotes, and exit programming mode.  Turn the key off, and confirm neither remote works.

Next, you need to reprogram:

---Turn the ignition to "ON". Press the programming pushbutton switch 3 times; you will hear 1 chirp from the horn.

--Press the lock key from each transmitter you wish to reprogram.  upon pressing lock, you will hear a horn honk indicating the remote is programmed.  This will program the lock, unlock, start/trunk, and option button (to channel 4).

--You can now turn off and remove the key (you will hear a loud horn chirp when you turn the key off.

Try the remotes and see if the status works on the 2 way.  If it still does not work, it could be the remote, the antenna/receiver mounted on the windshield,  or possibly the main unit.   The 2 way remotes are prone to failing over time...The easiest thing to do next would be to find a local installer that handles Audiovox for further debug.

i bought the car with this installed i only got the 2 way pager with the car and it was like this when i bought it.
i have tried reprogramming the remote again but i have done this before also checked to make sure the antenna was plugged in
are there any newer prestige unity that would be a direct plug and play into all the wiring i have if i wanted to upgrade

Yes, an upgrade would be fairly easy to the latest model, the APS997C--lots of features and great looking chrome remotes.  The 24 Pin main harness, the Ignition Harness, the Auxillary and door lock harnesses are all interchangable with your unit.  The only change you may need to make is running a new antenna cable from the brain to the windshield.

The older unit, to APS996, originally had a 3 pin cable to the antenna.  That was changed in the APS996A to a 4 pin antenna cable.  These units have seperate push button program switches and LEDs, as well as a toggle switch.  The new units integrate all this into the antenna module mounted on the windshield.

The only additional thing you will need to do is program the features of the unit.
