how to wire up vsm200 smart start

...to a Viper 5902 system using an idatalink bypass module? 2008 Nissan Titan LE I've been trying to gather info online on how to hook the Smart Start unit to my system using the idatalink module. I know the bypass module needs to be flashed with the "DBI" protocol and that is no problem. What i dont understand is i have found some sources that say the Smart Start module plugs into the 5902 brain in the bit writer port and i have found other sources saying that it must me plugged into the idatalink using one of the supplied plugs? Can anyone help clarify on how its supposed to be wired up to my 5902/idatalink combo? Thanks

As far as I know, you are better off connecting the idatalink w2w and then using the data port for the smart start. That should do everything you want. I don't know a whole lot about the smart starts, but I would assume that they simply trigger the remote starter unit to activate and then the unit takes over...Kenny

The bypass module is connected w2w, so then all i have to do is connect the smart start module to the 5902 unit via the bit writer port? In which case there would be no connections made between the smart start module and the ADS bypass unit? Also since the smart start is being connected in the bit writer port of the 5902, i don't need to connect the +12v constant and the ground cable from the smart start, this according to so of the info i have found online. Thanks for your help.

I believe that should work. Again, I don't know the smart starts all that well so I can't promise anything.Kenny

I believe you still need to run power and ground even when you are using the d2d cable...Plus it's only two wires so why not.
