regal vats bypass

is it ok to cut both vats wires and connect them together with a resistor,or do you need to keep the ground reference wire uncut?

You cut the orange tubing and there are two white wires and connect the one wire to each side of of the resistor. It will be inline between the two white wires.

Are you trying to bypass the VATS permanently. If that's your goal, yes, you can cut both wires & add the resistor between them (on the VATS decoder side, of course) & your car will now start with any key cut to the ignition-no resistor needed. I wouldn't suggest this, since you are bypassing the factory security & why would you do that. 

If you are adding a remote start & you want to do the job correctly, do a search for a VATS diagram on this site.

If you cut both thin white wires within the orange sheathing and splice a resistor across the vehicle side (not ignition cylinder side), then you have permanently disabled the theft system. The resistor must be within 5 percent of the resistor in the key. If you are installing a remote starter, then you would be better to use a relay to connect the resistor only when the remote starter is activated.sparky
