remote start cycles twice?

The remote start function car security worked well for a few months but after that the remote start function seems to cycle twice every now and then before starting the car. This occurs in all 4 weather seasons. It happens with a brand new car battery. The car starter "engine component" seems to be fine because the car always starts up when using a key. Anyone experience the same as I? Thanks.

Make & model of vehicle? 

Best guess is you are not using Tach Mode.   Tach Mode usually gives the best results, especially in cold climates.

 You could try connecting the U1272's Blue/White Tach input wire to a valid vehicle tach source, doing a Factory Reset on the U1272 and then just starting the (warm) engine with the key. The Parking lights should flash twice to signal a good Tach Learn.   If you previously made any changes to the U1272's programming ( other than the White wire Selectable Relay ) you will have to change them again after the Factory Reset.

Car is Nissan Maxima '97.
The Blue/white is connected directly to the vehicle ECM. The U1272 unit automatically detected the Tach that is the default setting. The white was selected for 2nd Acc. Do you think resetting the U1272 can help?

Sometimes doing a Factory Reset will help.  Or you could try a F.I. as the Tach source.  I've had good luck

with the U1272, after it learns the Tach signal, it always starts the first time.

Another possible problem is the Starter2 wire.  Did you get an extra relay and power it during remote start?

This info from Builldog Security :

STARTER       BLACK / YELLOW to BLACK/ WHITE (+) See NOTE *1        IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS

STARTER 2    GREEN/ BLACK to RED / BLUE (+) See NOTE *1    IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
 NOTE *1 When Installing a REMOTE STARTER, you MUST use BOTH Starter #1 and Starter #2 wires. Both wires must be connected
 to the STARTER/CRANKING Output wires from the Remote Starter or the vehicle will NOT Remote Start when the Engine is cold.

thanks for the help.
I hope I don't have to going through the fire wall to get to the F.I. because of the work involve.
both starter wires are wired together but what is that extra relay and what is it for?
do you know if increasing the tach wait time would help instead of the default setting which is no wait. there is a "tach wait" setting the unit will wait for 300ms before starting to monitor the tach and an option for 750ms.

The extra relay is to properly power the two starter wires in the ignition harness.

They are no longer isolated the way you can it connected.  General rule of thumb is,
if the factory designed and manufactured the vehicle with two separate starter circuits,
the remote start system should keep them that way.  Not sure on Nissan's, but it can
cause problems doing it that way on other vehicles.

Never had to use the Tach Delay settings on any installs, but being how it is easier

than running a Tach wire out into the engine compartment, it is worth a try.  You could
also try doing a Tach Learn at a higher or lower RPM ( by using the gas pedal or putting
the car in reverse ).

any suggestion on the relay and connection points? i will need to track down where the tach is located at the F.I.

For the Starter2 relay circuit, obtain a 30/40 Amp SPDT relay and a fuse holder with 20 Amp fuse. 

The added relay probably won't help with the remote start issue but is still advisable.

If you have the older style U1272, program the U1272 Mode 1, Item 5 to Option 2.  Check you install guide to verify the

programming table info.  That will change the Black AUX1 wire to (-) Start Output.  Wire relay as follows :

Relay Pin 85 to U1272 Black AUX1 wire

Relay Pin 86 & 87 to +12V constant thru 20 Amp fuse
Relay Pin 30 to Maxima Starter2 wire @ ignition switch harness
Relay Pin 87a not used - insulate

If you have a more recent U1272, this AUX1 programming option is no longer available.  Instead use the WHITE/ Violet

(-) WHILE RUNNING OUTPUT from the 3 Pin bypass module connector and wire as follows :

Relay Pin 85 to U1272 WHITE/ Violet GWR

Relay Pin 86 to U1272 heavy Yellow Starter Output on 6 Pin connector ( also goes to Maxima Starter1)
Relay Pin 87 to +12V constant thru 20 Amp fuse
Relay Pin 30 to Maxima Starter2
Relay Pin 87a not used - insulate

This relay setup assumes that you are not already using the U1272s' WHITE/ Violet GWR wire ( for a bypass module ).  This relay

wiring will work for either style U1272.

Most F.I.'s have a connector with two wires.  Compare several F.I.'s.  You will see that all connectors have one common wire color

while the second wire is a different, unique color.  This non-common colored wire is the Tach signal.  Verify using a Digital Multi Meter
set to 20V AC, Red lead to the suspect wire and Black lead to chassis ground.  You should see a 1V to 5V signal at idle that
increases slightly with RPM's.  This connection should be well soldered and insulated.
