So Ive installed 3 of these viper 5101 units last year. My truck, wifes car, and another relatives Hyundai. This Hyundai Sante Fe gave me problems installing, including the drivers unlock wire, but I eventually sorted it all out and it worked great all winter.
Then at some point earlier this year, I hear from this relative that the viper has stopped working- no functions lock/unlock or start will work. I finally got a chance to mess with it today. Hooked up my bitwriter and it communicates fine. 'Control center' led lights works, remote led works when buttons are pushed, but does nothing.
I tried re-pairing the remotes one at a time and no go. So I tried pairing the spare remote for my truck to this Sante Fe, and it worked perfectly. So the Viper brain is intact and working. I then tried pairing both 'bad' remotes to my truck, and they wont pair to it either.
One of these bad remotes was carried by the relative on a regular basis, the other stored at home with the spare key and factory fob like anybody would.
So I gave him my spare remote to use until we can sort this out.
Does anyone know why both remotes would stop working? Has anyone heard this happen before?
I appreciate any help or suggestions, Thanks

Did you try deleting all remotes (Step 2)and start fresh. What model of remotes 7152v or 7253v? All the newer LE and refurbished ones come with the 7153v remotes. You can try taking out the batterys and let them set over night, put fresh batteries in them a try again. If that don't work got to any authorized DEI installer and have them test them. Otherwise got some bad remotes and need to replace them, I would suggest either the Python 7152p,7153p or Clifford 7152x, 7153x as they don't have the battery door that can get lost or broken

I believe they are the 7153v, and I didnt know they could be deleted. He had said that after they stopped working a while back, that he had changed the battery in atleast one and it worked again, but only for a day or a short while(I cant remember)
How are they deleted? and Im not sure what step 2 is

The Valet/Program switch, plugged into the blue port, is used for programming. There is a basic sequence to remember whenever programming this unit: Key, Choose, Transmit and Release.
1. Insert the key. Turn the ignition to the ON position. The heavy gauge pink wire must be connected.
2. Choose. Within 10 seconds, press and release the Program switch corresponding to the number of the desired function step listed in the following table.
Once you have selected the function step, press the switch once more and hold it. The LED flashes and the horn honks to confirm the selected functional step. Do not release the Program switch.
  • Step Function
  • 1        Auto Learn Standard Configuration (default) The auto learn configuration will automatically setup the remotebutton configuration. Note: Due to the Supercode protocol, you cannot change the configuration.
  • 2        Delete remotes: This feature will erase all remotes from the memory of the system.
  • 3.Transmit. Press the button (LOCK) on the remote control. The horn honks to confirm that the code has been successfully programmed. It is not possible to teach a remote control button to the system more than once.
    4. Advance. You can advance from one function step to another by releasing the Valet/Program switch and tapping it to advance function steps and then holding it.

To pair the remote/s I did key on, press and release program button, then press and hold until the horn beeps, then released. Then I proceeded to get the remote to pair by holding F(function), led turns solid, press the 'start' button, then press the lock button.
As I had stated, this worked to pair my spare remote to this vehicle, but the 2 original remotes for it wouldnt work.
In your instructions it says do not release program button, but then never mentions when it should be released, which is a bit confusing.
So to dlete remotes I would essentially press the program button 2x, then again and hold? and then what? release?

Also don't trust that the battery is good, Check it with a DMM, should have more than 3 volts if its good like 3.2-3.3 volts for a new battery!

When to hold is for the entry to the option you want to change. So you've got key turned on now with in 10 seconds press(TAP) switch 2 times then hold to enter, while still holding press lock (On a functioning remote) to erase all remotes. Then exit. Then verify battery volts and power cycle remote by removing battery. Then start the pairing process from the beginning, by putting the remote(s) in pairing mode firts then do remote start!

When all remotes are deleted then none of them will work with the unit. The only function that will be programable is the remote pairing thats why it's the first option. once you have a remote or remotes paired then you can use any remote to make other changes. Also remember that if a remote is paired to Car 1 and you try to pair again with Car 2 selected on the remote it will fail. All 5 button remotes can operate 2 vehicles with one remote once you enable the remote mode Car 2 to enabled (is off by default on all remotes shipped). If Car 2 mode is enabled on a remote the holding the Function for more than 3 seconds it will beep, when it beeps release and tap to toggle between the Car 1 & 2 modes. Holding Function longer Than 8 seconds will enter into remotes options. This info is in the user manual not the install manual, avaiable in the downloads section of this site.

Ok thank you much. I have the quick guide, install manual and user manual already, but I hadnt seen anything in them about the remote delete. I understand what you are saying now and Ill give it a try when I can get to the vehicle again. I appreciate it. Worse case scenario he keeps my spare remote or buys a new one.

Alot of the Basic stuff is left out for the experienced installer who would know how the options list would apply to what the are doing. And is there for reference, the options list changes between models but not the basic premise.
