Hello,
Recently purchased a 2012 Camaro (1LT V6 if it matters). Love the car but was surprised that it did not come with a factory remote start. Dealers around here want $350 (lowest price). I have the blade style "flip out" key and really don't want to carry an aftermarket fob.
While I am aware I can use an aftermarket unit and tap to the lock wire of my vehicle to start using the factory fob I did find some other info.
Xpresskit and Fortin both claim to have stand alone remote start units through their interfaces (DB-ALL or EVO-ALL respectively). I cannot find any data on install diagram for either system. I called Bestbuy and Audio Express asking if this is something they could do and both stores said it's not possible. I was told remote start ready means it's ready to be hooked up to an aftermarket remote start system...didn't make sense to me and is contradictory to the manufacturers claims.
Can anyone point me in the right direction with either the DEI or Fortin interfaces to be used as a stand alone (without an actualy remote start device) remote starter system...?
Thank you!

The last paragraph was supposed to say "without an ACTUAL remote start device) other than the DB-ALL or EVO-ALL for clarification.

there is firmware for dball to install just a dball into your vehicle and use the oem keyfob to press lock 3 times and remote start the vehicle.  There is a big warning on xpresskits that the oem fob doesn't function while the vehicle is running.  You could test this and double check.  There is also no shutdown via the oem fob.  You can also add an xl202 and antenna/remote kit or a smartstart module and use your smartphone.   You can punch in your vehicle info on xpresskits and check out the install guide for dball, rsr.  It gives detailed info on your vehicle.

Could you provide a link to that? When I go to expresskit.com and put in the vehicle info only standard install diagrams come up showing with a Remote start unit (ie: viper, avital, etc). Nothing showing how to use the RSR function of the DB-All

Thank you!

This is supposed to be possible with the EVO ALL and THAR GM1V2 from Fortin. Never tried it, but it's supposed to work as long as it is activaded with an updater before hand. As for OEM remotes, none of the GM flipkey cars remotes work when it's running so you will need to use the key to get in the car when you RS it...

I have done the stand alone remote start on a 2013 cruize with the EVO-ALL and THAR-GM1V2 , as stated you can not stop the remote starter, it can be for run time up to 15 min, you require the flash-link V2 to set the stand alone option, as well you need to unlock the door with the key if the car is still running as the keyless does not work when the car is running.
