Last night I was attempting to program my Viper 5101 RS system in my 2001 Toyota Avalon. I was unable to enter the programing mode using the program/valet button on the antenna module. The LED does not flash and the horn does not honk. I feel like the antenna is doing something because it will allow me to open the trunk with the Viper remote.
When I try to activate the remote start, the remote itself blinks while I hold it, but nothing happens with the car. I have not seen the LED flash on the antenna module and there are no flashes of the parking lights when I try the remote start. Nothing happens other than a blinking remote. Any ideas? :S

Check your connections at the brain to make sure the antenna plug is pressed in all the way. That one may have 3 separate connections for the antenna, valet button and LED.
Does the remote work the locks too? Just not remote start?

I have re-attached that connector a few times with no luck so far. I have not setup the locks yet, I came into it expect to just attach one wire to unlock and another to lock, but apparently this car will require a relay setup. When trying to remote start I had the car unlocked. The trunk does open with the remote.

Did you connect the red wire from the main harness H1/2 and all reds from the Heavy Gauge harness H3/2, H3/5 and H3/8 to 12v constant?

A definite yes on H1/2, I did the H3 wires as specified in the installation guide. H3/2 to the ignition 2, H3/5 to ignition, and H3/8 to accessory :

You've tried turning ignition switch on, then off and then holding the programming on the antenna for a few seconds?
Is anything working on the brain?
Also, main thing, check your ground and make sure it's a solid chassis ground. A bad ground can cause some funky things to happen.

Tech doc. 1070 for this vehicle, should be in the Downloads/Manuals section.
Have you connected all the reds plus the RED / white and RED / black to a 12v+ constant, also there are two ignition wires.
Your 2nd. post tells us about H3 which we already know, how about listing what Viper wires go to which ones on the car.

1.) Yes, that is the procedure I have been following.
2.) It opens the trunk when I press the corresponding button on the Viper remote.
3.) I will double check the ground once I return home this afternoon.
Thanks for the tips.

Ok, thanks to the above tips I have fought my way through the programming. But now I have another problem:
When I press remote start, it activates but the starter does not engage. Everything else "comes on". I checked for voltage on the purple heavy harness wire wire after remote start as recommended in the manual and did not see any real voltage there, nothing close to a single volt. After that, as per the manual I checked all of the 30 amp fuses, no issues there. Then it mentions the gray/black wait to start wire. I do not have that wire connected to anything, and it is only supposed to error out if it is grounded. Any ideas? Thanks

I believe your key has the chip in it. What are you using for a bypass module?
Also, did you connect a tach wire and program the tach signal to the Viper?
The wait-to-start wire is only used on diesel vehicles.
