I am installing a remote start in a 2001 Santa Fe with the 2.7 engine, it is a Python model is responder one.  Everything seems to line up but I have 2 problems,

1. Starter continued to run longer after the car started. Tried to verify the tach single and wire but was unable to do so(did not know how). Says I need a WHITE/ black on a 40 pin but I only found it on a 26 pin plug. Not sure how to test voltage on tach wire.
2. Once the car started, then starter stopped running,  it would run a 15 to 20 seconds then shut off and then go thru the restart procedure, item 1 then item 2 again, this was continuous like it was not knowing it was running.

I now learned from the forum that the ecm is on the bottom or lower of 2 modules, with big white wire to far right in  gray shielded cable containing black and yellow. Is their a way to test this?  What voltage is coming off this?  Can it be done with test light?  Do I have any other problems that I have with this remote start?  Should I post a wiring diagram?  Do I need a key under the dash?

I haven't done a 01 but a 08 doesn't need a bypass or a key under the dash. If the wires are right it should start right up. I didn't use a tach wire, voltage sense works fine. I would test the starter wire not hooked up to the remote start and see if it is different from the python. I hope this helps.

If the you can't find the 40 pin plug at the ecm as per the wiring guide then don't test for the tach at ecm to avoid damaging it.
Directed lists the Tach as WHITE/ black or pink (ac) instrument cluster, 14 pin plug, pin 2 .
You could try that or an odd color ignition coil wire.
To test a wire for tach signal, set you digital multimeter to AC voltage, the black lead to ground and red lead to the suspected wire. The reading should give you about 1-4 volts while engine is idle and increase when you press the gas pedal.
