I have a 2006 Chevy Avalanche. I installed a manufacturer refurbished Python 1401 Remote Start myself over a year ago using the XK09 bypass. It is connected via D2D. The system worked great up until a couple of weeks ago. The remote began to work very intermittently and then quit altogether. I replaced the battery and it still doesn't work. I have replaced the batteries in the past with no issues. I have checked all my fuses and connections. I hear no clicking from under the dash like I used to when the system was working. I have jumped the H1/10 Blue and white wire to ground per the trouble shooting part of the instruction manual and the truck started just fine. The control center seems to work fine and responds to commands such as programming features and going through the menus. It also illuminates when I lock the truck with the factory key fob, however I get no response with my Python remote. I have attempted to re-pair my remotes to the system and can't get the confirmation horn chirp. My remotes don't appear to be in Car 2 mode. It is like the remotes are just dead. That being said I purchased a used Clifford system (5102X) really cheap on Ebay that came with two remotes that are supposed to be compatible with my system. I was able to get a confirmation chirp from one of these remotes but it still doesn't activate anything on the truck. I even tried the antenna from the Clifford system with the Clifford remotes and had no luck. The Clifford remotes don't seem to act quite right either. One of them won't stay illuminated when trying to put it in transmit mode. I have been over all my wiring again and see no issues. Does anyone have any advice on how to determine if my remotes are bad or if the issue is elsewhere? (I tried that dinky Energizer remote tester at Autozone and it didn't light up but I don't really trust its results). Is there anyway to test these remotes?
The FCC ID on the remotes that came with the Python system is EZSDEI7152A
The FCC ID on the remotes from my used Clifford setup is EZSDEI7153
From what I have seen online the 7153 is the replacement for the 7152.
Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Is there a limit to the number of transmitters that the system will pair with?  I have never erased all the remotes and started from scratch, do you think this could work?

The number of remotes paired to a unit is usually 4.  It is worth a try to delete all remotes and the repair them to the brain.

My attempts to delete the remotes and then re-pair them were unsuccessful.  I was able to get a confirmation chirp of the horn on one of the remotes to tell me that I had deleted the remotes, but I can't get anything to pair back up.  It is like the remotes are dead even though they light up when you press the buttons.  I am stumped.

I think I might try to test the used clifford system I bought on ebay.  Is there a way to bench test this with just the brain hooked up to power and ground and the antenna hooked up?  I was bascially going to see if I could hear the "clicking" of the brain when I use the remotes.  The H1 plug is different on my clifford than the python so I don't want to cut everything loose without knowing if the clifford system is working.  Can the unit be tested in this way?

Thanks for the help.

Yes the brains can be setup on a bench for testing. I do it all the time. I have found that it should be connected to a battery for the 12 volt source and not directly to a battery charger. They tend to make the brains act funny, from my experience.

Are you putting the remotes in the pairing MODE?  They need to be in the pairing mode in order to get paired to the brain. The remote will time out of the pairing mode after a set time.  This information is usually in the INSTALL GUIDE and not the Owners Manal. The 1401 install guide is in the downloads section of this site, and paring the remotes is on page 36.

Thanks for your continued help Smokeman,

I will try to bench test my Clifford unit this evening.  I should just have to hook up the 12 V constant to the battery correct, or do I need to hook up the ground too?

Yes, I attempted to put the remotes in pairing mode.  One of them definitely went into pairing mode but the other one didn't (I am going by the fact that it didn't light up solid after holding the "F" button for 8 seconds).  The good remote acted like it was in pairing mode and everything goes according to the instructions but I get no confirmation honk after hitting the lock button at the end of the sequence.  It is funny, I have a total of 4 remotes and they all seem to act differently.  I guess that is what I get for buying refurb stuff.  One of the remotes that came with my Python refurb has never really worked correctly.  It was never really an issue because the other remote worked great.

Yup...need to have the ground from the H1 harness. If you ar going to try to pair the remotes on the bench, you will also need the H3 harness to simulate the ignition being turned on by putting 12 volts to the Pink H1/1 wire.

Have you tried to keep pressing the function button for longer than 8 seconds.  If you have something like a horn or siren to connect with it to help with the confirmation chirps.

Problem solved...

I am not a fan of beBest Buy, but I stopped by there last night and spoke to their installer and had him attempt to pair them as well.  The guy was actually really helpful once he found out that I had instaleld the system myself.  After trying my original remotes, he went and got an old Viper remote they use for testing and it immediately paired to my system, so now I know that it is the remotes.  I assumed that since they lit up that they worked but I guess that is incorrect.  I purchased a Viper replacement remote while I was at Best Buy and it works great.

Again, thanks for all your help Smokeman.  I still plan to bench test my clifford system so I can put it on my wife's car.

Good to hear it is working. Very nice of the Best Buy Guy to give you a hand.  Tough to trouble shoot all the aspects of a system when you don't have spare parts and pieces to swap out and see what is not working.

If you bench test it use a light or piezo buzzer instead of the siren, otherwise you will be deafened!
Also you need to plug in the antenna/control centre AND the plug with the green door trigger wire to program it.
