I am wiring a prostart remote starter in to a 2006 ford freestar.

All is well untill I wire the relay in to parking lights at the light switch where it says to conect to the parking light conector (the light switch conector I assume from pictures).

similar to the diagram above but my diagram  shows pin 30 and 85 conected to tan /white and 86 parking light positive output

It says to connect black green to pin 87 on relay

cut tan white and  conect to pin 87a on wiring harnes side

connect other side to pin 30 and pin 85

pin 86 says it is parking light output +

When I wired this up and tried to activate the system the relay just buzzes.

testing I conected black lead to tan white and red lead to BLACK/ green

also BLACK/ green test 12 volts to ground and tan /white tests as a ground

I have looked at the diagrams on this site but still cant quite grasp what is wrong .

Any help would be helpfull

The Freestar had an unusual Parking Light set-up and required special wiring to work properly.  Use one of these wiring diagrams from Bulldog Security to connect the R/S to the Parking Light circuit :  http://diagrams.marktoonen.nl/DOWNLOADS/498_FREESTAR_FREESTAR%20WINDSTAR%20PARKING%20LIGHT%20DIAGRAM.pdf

I was looking at these diagrams as you posted wonder why prostart feels you should only be allowed to access your wiring once but bulldog allows unlimited access? guess I need to use bulldog in the future.

That said I got my wiring for the relay from wire colours.com because I couldn't access the prostart pages a second time.

Is it necessary to wire the daylight running lights for remote start? (second diagram), as I do have the daylight runnings lights, but don't think that they are needed.

Bulldog is one of several sites that are free and un-restricted.   There are other sites that are authorized dealer only.  Remember that the Bulldog Diagram is tailored for their R/S systems, so some wire conversions must be made to your Prostart unit.

The R/S system connection to the vehicles Parking Lights is optional but is worth the effort for the visual confirmation it provides.  The two diagrams in the Bulldog Security link are for the two different types of Headlight systems in the Freestar.  Some vehicles have "Auto Headlights" that monitor the outside daylight and turn on when it's dark while the basic Freestar has the standard user controlled headlight system.  It is possible that your set-up is different in Canada ( if U.S. Freestar's don't have DRL's, can't remember for sure.  It's been a while since I have done a Freestar. )   You can also take a look at DEI TechTip #1072 ( should be in the Download's Section ) for their Parking Light diagrams.  Here are photos of a U.S. Freestar without Auto Headlights :
