I'm reading up on my 98 K2500 GMC before doing an install over Xmas break from work.
I'm looking at the C266 connector (steering column wiring) in the factory service manual and I believe they are calling "IGN 2" something different.
When I look at the chart available on 12volt.com (https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/alarmdetail/1012.html), it says "Ignition 2, White or Pink/White, Ignition Switch Harness".
When I look at the FSM, there's IGN 1 and IGN 3. Nothing is labelled IGN 2.
However, cavity/wire C3 is WHT and labeled as "IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT - OFF/RUN/CRANK (AT)".
Is this IGN 2?
My alarm/starter has a hook up for IGN 2 and from what I understand I need to hook up IGN 2 in order for remote start to work on a 98 GMC.
Last thing I want to do is hook it up wrong and toast the alarm brain or the truck PCM....that would be a very Merry Xmas.....:(

Start by using a DMM on the wires on your truck to determine which is Ignition 1, Ignition 2, Accessory, Starter 1, Starter 2, ect. Accessory wires drop voltage when the key is in the start position.
The Viper 5701 install manual in the downloads section has a section in it for finding the wires you need. It will explain how they act/function at different key positions.( Off, Acc, Run, Start).
Wiring guides often contain different information, so the need for testing.
I have a '92 K1500. Really a straight forward truck as far as the wiring goes.

I agree with smokeman1, always use a DMM to test wires prior to connection. But, if I remember correctly the 2nd ignition is a white wire in the main harness, that is a smaller than the rest of your ignition wires. Something like an 18 awg wire instead of a 12 awg wire. Be certain to test for this 2nd ignition wire, because on GM automatic vehicles, not supplying voltage on this wire can cause shifting issues after takeover.
Hope that helps.

Wires at C266:
Pink = Hot in run and start = IGN1
Orange = Hot in Run = ACCY1
Brown = Hot in Run or Accy = ACCY2
White = Hot in Run, Start, or OFF (not "lock")
Yellow = Hot in Start = START
The White wire is Fuse 20 "TRANS" in the IP fuse block. PRNDL, Auto Transmission, Speedo, Check Gauges, Tell Tale. I don't know why there would be an issue with the trans upon takeover as mentioned above, but if you have an IGN 2 available, use it for this wire.
The Orange wire is hot in run only. It feeds the HVAC blower, so if you want RS to turn on climate control, the Orange wire has to energized. I suggest a "accy" feed so the blower load is removed during cranking. Directed have a "flex relay" that can be programed to an aux function.
