First, to get into programming for the APS901C, you need +12V on the RED / white Power wire, +12V on the Ign1 (blue) wire, and ground. You also need some type of indication that you are in that mode...i.e., parking lights. Nothing else needs to be hooked up except for the antenna, LED and switch, which are all integrated into the antenna.
It would be a good idea to verify that these signals are all connected and you are reading the correct voltages for both power and Ignition and you have a solid ground.
Also make sure you are not activating any of the shutdown signals, for example that you are not stepping on the brake, or have one of the shutdown signals active (hood pin, positive or negative inhibit wires)while you are programming.
If you can't get into programming, then you will not be able to program the tach, so confirm the connections and voltages as a first step. 7 flashes from the unit confirms that no tach signal is programmed.
The LEDs flash 2 times in 3 successive cycles to indicate that you have 2 transmitters programmed to the unit. This is normal and should occur when you turn on your ignition.
Where are you getting parking lights? Many of the wiring sheets tell you to get lights at the switch stalk on the steering column, but as a convenience feature on Hyundai's and Kia's, the BCM shuts parking light switch signals off when you open the driver's door, and the parking lights won't flash when the car is off. If you wired your parking lights at the steering column, place the parking light switch in the off position, and then they will light regardless of the state of the car. Also, Audiovox uses 2 wires for parking lights--one goes to the parking light wire in the car, the other to either +12V (for a positive parking light wire), or to ground (for a negative, or ground enabled parking light wire). The parking light signals at the light switch are usually ground enabled.
Getting into programming can be a little confusing if you look at Audiovox's documentation, as it is not well written. Turn the ignition to "on" (between acc and start", and press the programming button 3 times. the parking lights should flash once. This puts you in "bank 1", which is for programming remotes, or it is the first step in tach programming. To get to "bank 2" from bank 1, turn the ignition to "off then to "on" again. Parking lights flash twice. To get to "bank 3" from bank 2, turn the ignition to "off then to "on" again, Parking lights flash three times.
Once in bank 3, press the programming switch to get to the desired feature. Press the remote to change the setting.
Once you are in programming mode, I would set the unit to Voltage, set the voltage level to <0.5V (second Voltage level setting), and set preset crank time. This will allow you to confirm the remote start is working and connected properly. Once you are confident things are working OK, you can program tach and change from voltage back to the tach setting for engine checking.
