Hello,

I was having my clifford avantguard 4 installed today by a professional for a 2000 jeep cherokee(not a grand cherokee and it doesn't have the factory immobilizer), except he ran into a problem and couldn't figure it out So I need you guys help before tommorrow morning if you can. The questions are

1. He wired the remote start but when he pushes the button the parking lights flash 3 times, it starts and runs for 7 seconds, then turns off. He tripple checked his connections and cannot figure it out for the life of him.

2. How do you wire the door looks? Do you need a relay? If so how is it wired? It said on the wiring diagramn you needed a relay but he couldn't figure it out(but this was after 8 hours of installing the rest of the crap so he was tired).

3. We have this extra black wire. It has two ends, but at the beggining it has what looks like a small capacitator or maybe a battery and no where in the avantguard 4 manual is it listed, What is the purpose of it?

Thanks, Adam

I don't mean to be rude but if he is a pro he must know what he is doing.
Better let somebody that installed Clifford before to check your system.

He's a clifford alarm installer, he just hasn't done one in awhile. I think we may have a fried brain, he is gonna check on it on monday. The remote start doesn't work, its weird. It starts up, 8 seconds later dies. The debug code it gives is to check the ignition connection. But he resoldered 4 times! Its not the connection. The wire gives off 12volt in crank but when we do the remote start it gives 0 volts?

Its so confusing. Also, he wired some negative door relays and they won't work. He can touch the negative to a ground and it will make the door unlock and lock but when we plug it in it doesn't work? Please help.

Hmmm , that shounds strange. Didn't installed a Clifford till now but are you sure you connected correctly the Tachometer wire ?
How many ignitions has the car ?
I'll check the schematics for the AG4 and let you know what I find out from there.

It has two ignitions. I am not sure on the Tach, I didn't ask about that. He is sposed to be coming up to my place to fix it, since the drive is like 280 miles and i've already done it twice.

the small capacitor lookalike is a heat sensor, its supposed to be attatched to a heator pipe to avoid overheating.     There is no info in the wiring diagram and its rarely fitted if the engineer wires up the acc position on the ign switch.Asfor the engine cutting out,he may have picked up tacho wire from cold start injector {which only stays active for about 10secs}instead of main injector.
