Hey yall. Merry Christmas first of all.
Soo I'm having problems with just the remote start feature in my 2000 dakota rt. I've rung out all the wires in the ignition harness and there is only one ignition wire (blue) contrary to what online says about there being two. GREEN/ red not an ignition nor BLACK/ white. I have like 6 12 volt constants in the ignition harness, 3 accessory but only one ignition (blue) and one starter(yellow).
The 4606 remote start has two ignition wires (pink) (pink/whlite) and only one starter wire labeled as output (violet). I thought starter wires were cut in half and you wired one to the key side and other to car side? What do I do here?
Also I'm hitting the remote start button on the remote but my starter wire isn't going hot. Nothing on the viper ignition harness goes hot when I hit the button. Is this right? All my 12v constants are wired to 12v (RED / white, input ignition 2 and flex relay) (red, input ignition 1 relay) (RED / black, input for acc and starter relays) all 12 v constant.
Soo what do I need to do lol. What's up with ignition 2? What's up with the starter wire? Do I need pink/black (flex relay input 87a key side if required of flex relay.
Thanks to whoever takes the time to read and reply.
Merry Christmas Happy Holidays !!!

This would be the part where I would ask you to list all of your wire connections from the Viper to what color wire on the Dakota.
Heavy Gauge harness:
Viper Red to....?
Viper RED / Black to ...?
ect,,ect,,ect...
I don't believe the starter wire needs to be cut for this remote starter.

This should get you started.
Above links are for free access to wiring guides. They are guides and may not match your Dakota.
You will need a Digital Multi Meter,(DMM), for testing the wires on your Dakota.
Accessory Wires will drop 12 volts during the starter engaging and go back to 12 volts once started.
Ignition Wires stay at or real close to 12 volts during starting.
There are two 12 volt constant wires, RED / Black and Red.
The Vipers Red, RED / White, RED / Black and the Red from the main harness will connect to 12 volt source. You can split the 12 volt connection between the two wires.
Starter Blue / YELLOW....Viper Violet
Ignition 1 Blue...Viper Pink
Ignition 2 GREEN/ Red, Listed on 2000 year only...Viper Pink/White
Accessory BLACK/ Orange...Viper Orange
Test all of the wires for their function, Solder your connections, DON'T use quick connects.
make sure you have a good ground.
Make sure you connect the hood pin and brake shutdown.
Is the truck an automatic transmission?

Truck is an automatic. I read somewhere GREEN/ red was only the 4.7l. Well I checked again. I have 3 GREEN/ red wires and non show 12 volt when ignition on. Now this is weird cos my BLACK/ orange shows 12v during ignition but goes off when cranking, so I thought it's an accessory, but It actually goes dead when in auxiliary like an ignition wire. So I connected ignition 2 to this BLACK/ orange but still no luck.
I have hood pin connected and brake switch. Neutral safety is grounded and switch is on. Parking lamps now flash 7 times. Saying manual transmission mode. I did the menu instructions, menu 3..click..click hold..unlock but still no luck..
Some sites have different info so it's hard to cross reference wire color. I read on one that BLACK/ orange is ignition 2.
So only wire I don't have connected on viper remote start harness is pink /black

This is where you will have to test and verify the wires you are looking for with your DMM.
The wiring guides are just guides, to give you and idea of what and where a wire might be.
Go to the downloads section of this site, look for the Viper 5701 or Viper 571. In those are sections on finding and testing for the wires you need. It will explain how they function under what ignition key position.
You will not need to cut the starter wire for your install.
Also do a search on this site for your year, make, and model of vehicle for any similar info.
If you can not change a menu item, it may be that the remote start is not seeing the ignition wire getting 12 volts during the key on/off.
When all else fails, Read the Instructions

Thanks smoke man I got it working. The BLACK/ orange was the one I needed, however I had to hook up the viper pink/black to a 12 v constant for it to remote start. The pink/black when hot makes pink/white(ignition 2) hot.
