Hi there.
Just picked up a 2000 Toyota 4runner that has a
Viper 1500 ESP Alarm/Remote Starter.
I'm trying to change a couple of features.
One is Disable Code Hopping - I'm hoping that will improve my remote start range.
Another is Disable Parking Lights Flashing when running, I don't need that as I have DRL.
I followed the instructions in the install manual I downloaded to get into the Features Learn Routine.
- Open Door
- Turn Ignition on then off
- press and hold valet button and after 3 seconds alarm should chirp
Alarm doesn't chirp. I suspect the Learn Routing is Locked.
Is there anyway to reset the unit or unlock it?
Thanks for any help.
It's -25 here right now so I can't get under the dash.
In spring I will swap out this unit with a different model that I have and can program.

First, make sure you are not in valet mode (led staying solid). I'm not 100% this is necessary, but it's what I've always done.
Assuming you are not in valet mode here's what has worked for me in the past: unplug all harnesses from the brain, identify which pins on the unit in the main harness are power and ground, and short them together with a paper clip or piece of wire.
Do this, then plug everything back in and see if you can now get into programming.
My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.

Thanks for the reply.
I think it might be in Valet mode as the red light is on all the time.
I must have accidently activated it.
That would explain why it doesn't chirp when I lock/unlock it anymore.
I will get it out of valet mode and try again.
I'll have to wait till spring to get under the dash.
It's way too cold right now and I can't take the chance of disturbing something under there.
Thanks again and I'll report back.

I want to apologize to geepherder.
I was one of those guys who didn't report back.
I ended up swapping out the unit for a DEI ProStart (I'm in Canada) with greater range and more features.
thanks for your help
