My daughter lost the key fob to her Rav4 and the car will not start without it. There was a switch that turns the alarm off and on but it broke off. Does anyone know how to disable the alarm so we can start the car or do we need to get a new programmable key fob?

We're going to need some more info on what you have installed. Factory or aftermarket ? Manufacturer of system.

It's a 1997 Toyota Rav4 manual transmission

AFIK this might be a chipped key, the Toyota factory alarms back then didn't have an immobiliser but the vehicle itself might have one.
