Alarm and Remote Start virgin, non DEI

Hey, folks. Very experienced with car audio, but have never installed an alarm or a remote start and having researched the webs for a while, it's just led to a ton of confusion. First off, the car(s) I'm going to be installing in are an 05 Chevy Suburban and a 95 Lexus SC400...although the Lexus will come later and I'm not too worried about it, at the moment. Some of my questions are: 1. W2W or D2D? Which one is better? Easier? Any specific reasons to choose one over the other? 2. As a non dealer, will I be able to program the bypass module myself? If yes... 3. What equipment will I need to do so? I think I've pretty much decided on a non DEI product. Mainly due to what I've read as to the poor/non existent customer/tech support. Before making this decision, I thought I would go with the Avital 5305L as I felt it had enough of a feature/price combination for what I needed. What I'm looking for is suggestions for an alarm + remote start and bypass module. There are so many brands/models that it's very difficult to choose one for someone who does not deal with them regularly. Some of the features I'd like to have is: 1. Heated seats activation, I see some are capable of this and some are not. Also, the ones that are capable are set to a fixed 32 degree temp when they activate. I'd like to have some choice in this, if possible. 2. 2 way 3. Decent range, but probably don't need miles of it or phone functionality. That's all I can think of at the moment. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Forgot, budget, i'd like to keep it under $200 for both alarm+rs and bypass.

Here is my two cents.... Compustar RF-2WG9-SP     $80.00 Compustar FT7000-as       $76.00 Fortin INT-SL+  $32.00    Total $188.00 Don't think anyone offers temp selectable heated accessory control. All come on if the engine coolant temp is below 32 degrees. Go with W2W for complete reliability. No extra bypass module programming cables necessary. Fortin INT-SL+ comes pre-loaded and is ready to go right out of the box. Very reliable and easy to use module. Soldering is fun!

Thank you, Kreg, I appreciate the reply. I did a little bit of research on these parts and this is a pretty good example of why this crap is so confusing. The Compustar RF-2WG9-SP you suggested, according to Compustar's website, is only compatible with the CM7200-S and CM800-S. It doesn't mention the Compustar FT7000-as at all. I imagine you KNOW it is compatible from experience? What are the pros/cons to installing separate alarm and remote start modules as opposed to a single unit with both built in? I see the FT7000-as is "BLADE" ready. What exactly is that and would I need a cartridge? Is the Blade cartridge used in place of an additional bypass module, like the Fortin INT-SL+ suggested. Also, if using a Blade cartridge instead of the separate bypass module, does that only allow for D2D wiring, and not W2W? Thanks.

Never mind, I've answered some of my own questions. When wiring W2W, how does the remote start know what the engine coolant temp is? How are heated seats, HVAC and rear defrost controlled? Can all of these features work without D2D?

A remote start would get engine coolant temp from data, however it sounds like you're going with the Compustar 7200, so get the thermistor with it for a couple bucks and it'll read the actual air temp in the car. You can set it to activate defrost etc at either 42 or 32 degrees. 42 is a better choice in my opinion. To actually activate the circuits in the car you'll have to find how to turn them on in the car, usually either a negative pulse or negative latch. The heated seats are likely more complex, but a directed wire chart should give you what you need.
