Hello, i am new to the whole car install thing, i am installing an keyless entry system on my car 01 escort zx2.
from the diagram in here, it shows that the wire is a
""""Trunk Release     GREEN/ Black (-)''''
so the output from my keyless entry is a negative output, that throws a negative pulse.
my question is , do i still need a relay to finish the install or can just hook the keyless entry system (-) output to my negative factory GREEN/ black wire before the switch. ?
thanks
thanks

No relay needed. A direct connection will work fine. You are probably looking at the Bulldog Security wiring diagram. It mentions the need for a relay because their line of remote start system have a (+) Trunk Release output.
Soldering is fun!

thank you for the response, i was wondering that for a bit. i read somewhere that a relay needs to be used to increase amps for the negative line as some systems throw very little amps for the trunk output.
the manual for my system doesn't show how many amps it throws out the negative trunk output.
in this case is there a way to know if a relay will be needed to increase amps for the output or it doesn't really matter at all?

An easy way is to to use a test light (incandescent bulb) probe with the clip end to either ground for NEG or 12V+ for POS. If that works no relay required. The correct method, cut the wire and use a DMM in series.
Guess which method I've NEVER used.

My experience is that Ford's do not generally need a relay to "strengthen" the (-) pulse. Some Honda's do. Try it without a relay and if you get any intermittent trunk pop activity, add the relay.
@ Howard My guess is your favorite Snap-on Test light is all you use for most older cars. 01 ford escort zx2 trunk release -- posted image.
