I installed a remote start module in my friends 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. The vehicle remote start starts up then dies after a second or 2. I wired in a resistor to bypass the ignition cylinder pk2 system. If I installed the bypass wrong, the vehicle would have the same symptoms if I started the vehicle with the key normally correct? But the vehicle starts great and everything. Also another question, is the tach wire necessary to install? I didn't install it on my 2002 sierra and mine works fine.

how did you test for resistence? Did you measure from the Yellow wire to the Blk at the passlock harness?

I don't remember. I believe it was white to black. but either way I didn't have the correct size resistor so I wired in a 4k ohm resistor and relearned the system.

well there is your problem.. You have to be semi-close to the resistence, can't just pick a random 4K and expect it to work.

pretty sure you can as long as you relearn it right? and also how come the vehicle starts up perfect with the key while the white wire is cut?

Yes, with Passlock2, you can do a permanent bypass with any resistor value as long as you go through the 30 minute relearn process.
Any "security" type lights on the Instrument cluster during a remote start?
Does the R/S try a second or third time?
Can the R/S provide any error codes for the R/S failure?
Soldering is fun!

I didn't notice if there is a security light during remote start. I will have to check that.
and yes it will keep trying to start over and over.
I don't know if it can. my model is a pro9056 by voxx I will try and see.

I would try switching over to Tach Mode.
Connect the Yellow/Black wire to this vehicle wire :
TACH   PURPLE/WHITE (AC)    @ IGNITION COIL
Program the Pro9046 to Tach Mode, Bank 3, 5th Feature to Option 2.
Then do the Tach Learn process on a warm engine as shown on Page 12 of 19 in the install
guide. At Step 6, it is recommended to continue to hold the Program Button for about 20
seconds before releasing it at Step 7.
Soldering is fun!
