Quick question aout the door locks. This model has 3 door lock wires  red, green and red with a black trace. it states that they can either be for single  or 2 step locking. and both positive and ground pulsing. however  are relays needed and my main question what is their default setting  out of the box? do they give a pulsed ground or positive, and is this selectable?

The red and green wire supply both positive and negative. The red wire is a negative for lock and is positive for unlock. The opposite is for the green wire. The RED / black supplies a negative only. No programming needed if all you need is a negative or positive. It sounds confusing but is not.

Relays are not needed if the door locks are negative or positive door locks in most cases.  In some instances the output is not enough to trigger the lock circuit so you must use relays.  You will need to use a relay for sure if it is a 5-wire door lock system.  The red wire with black trace is not usually worth the hassle.  To use 2 step unlocking you must wire each door seperately from the drivers door and diode isolate them so that they do not feed onto each other.  And that is why I cut that wire off!

Thanks guys, the alarm is going in a 2000 grand am, which uses a single wire system, negaitve to lock and negative through a 1.5k ohm resistor to unlock.  So in this case red will go to lock and green will go to a 1.5kohm resistor for unlocking.  however since this is a one wire system, wont the red send a positive pulse when the green is sending a ground pulse at the same time for  unlocking? wont this cancle eachother out?

You will need two relays and no need to diode isolate anything. You need a solid ground, the alarm will not drop the negative enough and yes the positive will interfere. And to Mr12volt what are you talking about with the 2 step unlock? You do not need to diode isolate anything for 2 step unlock. All you need is one relay in order to use the drivers door priority. You need to read the install manual again.

If you are wanting to still use the priority door lock system you have to wire the RED / BLACK through a resistor straight to the driver's motor and reverse the polarity of the RED / BLACK wire from (-) to (+). If you are not wanting to use the priority door lock option, wire up the RED to the LOCK through a relay and wire up the GREEN through a relay with the resistor on pin 30.
