A viper w/remote start was just installed in my Ford F-150. The installer took my spare key and put it in a module for the remote start. I called a local Ford dealer and a replacement key is going to run me $125 bucks! Is this the only way the remote start will work on a Ford? Thanks for any info

The shop is just too cheap to use a bypass module that doesn't require a key. My shop uses DEI's 555F to bypass the chip in the key....other manufacturers make similar pieces. You could also look around on the net and find someone that could sell you a replacement key and then program it yourself. www.howardkeys.com sells them, but they are wholesale only.

check with your local locksmith. see if they can cut the key for you and then you can program it yourself. either way should be cheaper then the dealer

I asked the dealer about the 555f and he stated that there were a lot of problems with them and DEI recalled them. However, the newer 555F's were now being released. Thanks for the replies and help.
