How do you know when to use Resistors?

I was reading through the some of the vehicle wire page. and seen were you need to use resistors on parking lights, door locks, etc. im new to resistors, but how do you no when to use them and what size do you use?

It depends. If you have a wiring guide for the car then it is alot easier to know. If you don't and you use a meter to test wires then you can figure out if the circuit is Mulitplexed and calls for a resistor.
