i am thinking of purchasing the 555c dei sentry key bypass as apposed to rigging a home made solution. it will be in a 2000 jeep cherokee with a design tech starter. i was interested in hereing any information as to the wiring and code learning. when i get it i assume i wont have to much trouble .i enjoy working on my own vehicles but i guess it wont hurt to ask for a bit of help . thanks from me and the jeep

just to tell ya that there is the alternative key bypass which is 555u. i dont know how easier the 555c are, but the 555u is very easy to install but have to give up a spare key.

yes i have seen the 555u .however the dealership quoted 70 bucks canadian for a new key .granted i can get it cheaper through a few people i know but the 555c was only like 50 bucks canadian . so they would work out probably about the same price . i really dont care about the security but i guess i would rather not have the key in vehicle. i would rather make the thieves play with the wiring and work for it.

The 555c isn't too hard to program, as long as you know how to read and follow instructions. As far as your choice on a designtech remote start, you may want to consider buying a quality product instead.

if you are not able to use a wait to start method or do not want to play with wiring there is another way. i did this mainly because i am lasy but if you have a non chipped key you can insert first real key ,then second key then use your non chipped key for third key but hold the 555c chip to ignition. i powered bypass chip from a separate power source also since i did not feel like opening dash at that time.

You could also ....

1. Insert first key

2. Insert 2nd key

3. Insert one of the first 2 keys wraped in tin foil and power up the 555C on top of the head of the key. This will work aswell

i would like the 2 way dei but the designtech was a lot cheaper since i pulled it from my old car .plus when i purchased it back then it was cheap . and had a trunk feature so i could hook up a carburetor kicker selenoid. i have used it for for some time and it seams to work well for the price.
