I purchased a prostart starter from Canadian Tire and proceeded to install it in my 92' Euro Lumina. (It's been an adventure). I have it wired in and programed (remote and tach learning).

****************************

The problem is that when I try to remote start the car the starter engages and gives it the good old college try but the car doesn't quite start. Other than the motor actually starting everything else sounds exactly as it does when starting the old fasioned way. The remote starter function tries to turn the car over for about 8 seconds waites a few seconds then tries again then again then gives up.  (The car normally turns over within a few seconds.)
****************************

I was going to rewire and rework things but after reading all the negative posts regarding prostart I thought I would seek advise first. My instalation is described below:

There are 3 seperate wire harnesses. A 6 wire main harness. A 5 wire secondary harness. Finally a 12 wire accessories harness. I'm not using the accessory harness right now because it has only negative outputs for door locks and trunk (I need positive and Radio shack is closed so I can't buy any relays today). I'm positive that the secondary harness is properly hooked up (chasis ground, tach, hood switch, brake switch, and parking output). If anyone could point out errors in my main harness hookup I would be eternally greatful. Here is my hookup:

6-pin harness wire ------> connected to--->vehicle ignition wires

Red (+12 V Battery) -----> Red +12 constant (off, acc, start, crank)

Purple (Starter) --------> Yellow (+12 crank position only)

Red (+12 V Battery) -----> RED / White +12 constant (off, acc, start, crank)

Yellow (Ign Output) -----> Pink (+12 run & crank position)

Orange (Acc Output) -----> Orange (+12 run position)

Green (5th Relay) -------> Not Connected, Taped and Secured

Couple of specific questions:

1) Should I have hooked both Red harness wires to the same Red Vehicle ignition wire?

2) According to a wire diagram from Bulldog security there is a second vehicle ignition wire (D Blue/Wht wire) I have not hooked anything into this one. Should I have?

At this point I am leaning towards ripping the thing out and returning it but I would like to know if I f*@#ed up with the install. Last question ---> Any recomendations on a better unit for the do it yourselfer?

Did you learn your tach wire to the system ??  Also, you need to hook up the DARK BLUE / WHITE second IGN wire to the RS in order for the car to start as well. You also have a SECOND ACCESSORY---------PURPLE / white .

Thanks for the quick response. After reading my own post I noticed that I could hook upthe unused green wire to the second ignition wire. Car fires up right away now.

Now for this second accessory wire---> Whats it for, do I need to hook it up?

Thanks much.

some vehicles have more than one acc. wire that needs to be hooked up while remote starting, but on your vehicle you dont need it.

Thanks all. Everything is fine now. Just need to get my hands on some relays for the door locks/ trunk release. The second acc wire seems to be for the radio etc, which I don't need to start remotely anyways.

Regards,
