Hi,
My dad just got a '00 Toyota Camry with power door locks and windows but no keyless entry, and he wants me to install an alarm system in it, mainly so that he'll have keyless entry. I've installed an alarm with remote start on my '94 Celica before, and I'm aware of how to correctly and safely install an alarm using SPDT relays and diodes where needed and such. I'm curious as to whether or not anyone has any tips or pointers for the installation. Also, how hard is a basic alarm install on a '97-'01 Camry?
Also, on this thread, it says that I should use the unlock and lock wires that test when the key is in the passenger-side door, and that these wires are dark blue, and dark blue/white. I plan to do this instead of using the wires indicated here, unless anyone can suggest why I shouldn't do this.

Interesting...I've seen four different wiring colors for the door locks from a couple different sites. Anyone else have any tips or suggestions?

the info should be pretty good. test with a meter, the lock wire will show 12v. when you hit the lock button, you will lose the 12v.
Good Luck

You might be able to find a factory Toyota setup on ebay for a good price. They are mostly plug up, no splicing.

the most reliable and certainly the easiest SUREFIRE 100% posive, works every time, I swear to God on my life, wires to get for unlock on the Toyota camry, years (1998-2001) is...........

UNLOCK - solid blue(royal blue)

LOCK       - solid light green

These wires can be found exiting the bottom of the fuse box in an orange molex.  This molex has approximately...um..15 wires or so... never really counted them.  But you can bet your favorite pets left eye that these wires will work every time.... no need to tag any additional child safety unlock wires or the such.  I was weened on toyota alarms and I'm thoroughly familiar with them...
