Well, I am a member of a few boards, and found this site VERY useful.  LOTS of great info here.

My question.... I bought an autopage 750LCD alarm, and the DEI bypass (555*).  Any of you installed an alarm on a 01 or 02 GMC / Chevy 2500HD Duramax diesel (automatic)?  My stereo equip / accessories are getting a little expensive, and I need to have a little more protection.

ANY diagrams would be useful, and tips on problems you have run into.  Thanks in advance guys!

Yeah, I just did one a few days....

what do you need to know....

as far as wiring codes...well my dumb*ss did it the hard way, busted out the DMM tested all the wires (like you're supposed to)...I just forgot to write down the wiring codes (the last part is the dumb*ss part.).

What do you need help with??  hooking up the remote start?  Probably since you have to trigger the glow plugs to warm up before teh engine cranks...if that's the problem...I'm sure me, or someone in this forum has an idea...

just give me specifics on what you're running into....

Tips: Don't eat yellow snow! Always test the wires with a DMM NOT A TEST LIGHT (bad things really bad things can happen!), Take your time. And never ever trust a wiring code sheet...usually they are right, but that one time you decide not to test the wire............And never ever, pay full price for a late pizza, always contact a knowledgable installer with your questions (like you are now)...and do not wizz on the electric fence...sure it sounds like fun but oh the pain, the pain I tell you!!! (sorry but as the name states..JESTER!!)

Which DEI 555 are you using is it the 555L?  I think that's the one in which you have it made...self-learning...very nice!

What you might ahve to do is hook up a relay to the glow plug sensor light or something (excuse me I'm tired) so that the remote start doesn't kick in till the plugs are warmed up, and when they are warmed up, it'll kick kick in the remote start circuit.  how to do that?  ummm....if I'm right and no one else tells you how by teh time I get back, I'll tell you....or maybe that's all you needed to know and you got it figured out.....

meanwhile...I'll look for a wiring diagram for you.......who knows I might have one lying around my bay somewhere.....

DJ12V....  Thanks for the help.... and the tip on the electric fences... :)

As for running into problems, the unit doesnt get here till tomorrow (UPS, of course, lost it).  I was going to work today on it, but looks like NOPE!!  And yes, the 555L is what I believe it is (it is self learning).

I have done many things electrically and mechanically to vehicles for the last 15 years, but this is a new one for me.  I dont plan to do anything extravagant right now, just alarm with shock, door pins, and remote start..... but it IS the remote start that I am a bit worried about.  I understand the directions are great, so I am not too worried about it (ask me that again when I have the dash taken off.. )

Velocity Motors...

That was FAST.... thanks for the input.  I am taking it the wiring schematics are the same for diesel trucks as well that are 2001??  (I see your note of '02 models)

The wiring has not changed between the diesel and the gas engine models for the Chevy. Just make sure that you use a DMM to double check for circuit verification and all should be good.

Yeah, what velocity said...the wiring codes stay the same....Cost effective...use the same harness as often as possible I guess.....

no prob...I was getting ready to post the codes, but velocity got to it b4 me....

so yeah...

ok, tell me when you got the dash off and I'll ask you if you're worried...Diesel Remote Start -- posted image.!!

It isn't that complimacated (yes pronounce it as compl-ma-cated), just a little on the time consuming side...

GOOD LUCK AND CONGRADUALTIONS ON A SUCCESSFUL INSTALL!!!  ( i know it ain't done yet, but that is the faith I have in you....plus, now the pressure on..hehehehehe Diesel Remote Start -- posted image.)

mobiletoys....  IIRC, this particular alarm has an on board relay for diesel mode.

DJ12V....  Thanks for the 'pressure'.

no problem...glad I could be of service.....

Smart person, got a module for a diesel remote start option....

hey, mobiletoys, last time I did a remote start on a diesel....they didn't have on-board relays...remember those days...frustration, anger, smacking yourself in the forehead trying to figure out why it didn't work...oh, I am so glad they seem to be in the past.

Well Goodluck....not that you'll need, it's simple...the hard part is finding the wires.

Man I hope so... I just came inside to print this out (forgot to for some reason).  Looking at it, I dont think it is going to be much of a problem.  SO FAR.... nothing connected, just took off the dash and read instructions.  All seems fine.  I will need some relays after all, but not a problem!  Looks like a few 10A's will be fine.  I will keep you boys posted... and again... THANKS for the help!!!Diesel Remote Start -- posted image.
