Hi all,

I just had a viper 790xv installed this past weekend by an installer and all was good until I got home. Everytime I try to remote start the car, the factory alarm (horn) starts blaring! The car starts but the horn starts to honk and honk. At this point usually disarm then re-arm the alarm and the car stays running.

I told them about this and they are going to look at it this weekend, but I am pretty good with electronics ans if it is something simple that I can fix myself, I rather do it myself.

let me know

thanks ahead of time

Well, I would rather let the people you just paid good money to install it make it right but that's just me. Besides I believe DEI is pretty picky about who installs and/or works on there products and if you start playing with it they might not honor your warranty.

the disarm wire murphy is talkin about is at the door, blue wire.
i hope theyll run a wire to the door cause its almost impossible to get through the harness at the door. theyll not waste their time to run it, instead theyll ground the wire permanently to disarm it.

Thanks for all of the replies guys, I figured it might have been the factory disarm wire that they failed to connect. One thing bothers me though...

If they didn't connect the factory disarm, why would I be able to arm and disarm viper and the factory alarm arms and disarms as well? The way I can tell the factory arm and disarm is working is becasue of the factory alarm LED"s and the fact that the factory alarm doesn't trip after disarming with viper and entering my vehicle. The only time the factory trips is when I remote start. Weird huh?

They told me over the phone that they have to install a relay to fix the problem since I requested that the horn honk with the viper alarm when tripped. In order to get the horn honking along with viper he said a relay had to be installed (for $30 extra). He said once they set that up that all will be fixed.

Another thing, the reason I wanted to try and fix it myself was becasue a)It is a pretty long drive b)these guys looked a little cheesy to me and it looks like I might be able to do a better job. I really messed up by going to these guys but it is too late now.

thanks all

well, its like this:
"people cant find the time to do it right the first time, but they always find time to do it a second time"
they should have hooked it up (if they didnt)at the time of install. now you can try pro said, and if that is what most installers do, they i dont see how that would void the warranty. one more thing, for dei to want only their installers to do the work, i would think they would want them to do the job right in the first place. im not saying that they didnt a bad install. we dont know all of the facts, however i have heard of DEI and/or shops not wanting to honor the warranty because someone looked under the dash or coughed too hard. this goes for all installers, take the time or make the time to do the right job right the first time. i am evey picky about my work...its not about how fast you can turn a job out. i dont advertise. i rely on word of mouth. do a good job and they will be happy....do a great job and they will be back for more!
