I've got a friend who's asked me to help restore her 1971 VW Bus, the vehicle has been sitting up for the last 10 years, she just had a motor put in it. I'm sure the brakes need lots of work (no problem for me)

but she's asked me to rewire everything, and install a soundsystem from scratch (the old bus' had no radios) as well as install an alarm-----i don't think the soundsystem will be hard (altho customization intensive)--but i don't know anything about alarms, and i know its gonna be a challenge to install an alarm

any recommendations on brands as well as any personal info from previous installs on old VW's is greatly appreciated

I know this is gonna be a lot of fun and hard work

I have nothing against do-it-yourself . . . it's the best way to learn!

A security system isn't all that complicated especially since most come with wiring instructions and live tech help.

Go with a national trusted brand like DEI as an example.

Your biggest challenge might be to install and wire door pinswitches as these vehicles didn't have any. You'll need the euro style pinswitches.

Your best help is right here. With nearly 61000 members with an average 10 years exprience that's 610000 years of info to tap into!!!!!
