04 malibu r/s

I have heard the 04 Malibu has an optional remote start,Is this a G.M. unit or a aftermarket one?

If I am not mistaking, they contract through Northwest Alarms, to put hose in there, they are aftermarket, but made for GM's.  I recommend getting one without a r/s and installing a ftermarket, because you get a whooping range of 100 feet on them, my buddy's dad has one and is very dissapointed with it.2005 Toyota Corolla S

When they say 200 feet, it's possible that they're just telling the truth. The aftermarket companies are just flat-out lying when they claim 1000 feet----that's nearly a quarter mile! I've never seen an aftermarket remote start even work from around the block.I read technician's newsletter at a Chevy dealership recently, and their system appears to be far superior to anything aftermarket. It doesn't just monitor tach. It also watches oil pressure, coolant temperature, and a few other things like that, and it will shut down the engine if there's a problem.Also, their unit monitors outside temperature, and operates the climate control system all by itself. Depending on the outside temperature, it'll make full heat, full cold, or medium. With an aftermarket system, the customer has to remember to set the heater on high before he goes into his house.But anyway, this does NOT spell the end for aftermarket installers. The shop I work for still does a booming business in leather, heated seats, sunroofs, power locks, power windows, cruise control, and video-----even though all of these items are available in most new cars.For example, a customer might want leather in his new Toyota Camry, but he doesn't want to spend the extra money on the loaded XLE model. So he'll buy a base LE, and get aftermarket leather. I'm confident there'll be plenty of base-model Malibus we can install remote starts on."

Is up to the installer to test all wires with a DMM whenever possible.

I have sold & installed units that DO have 1000 feet range ( line of sight ). Don't get me wrong, but it's no word of a lie as I have seen it myself as well as installed systems myself.Jeff

'02 Tahoe w/Matrix3.5, I was walking toward the end of the block-200 feet from the corner;  the truck was 150 feet around the corner-started fine.  When I am on the same block, (city=San Francisco)one and a half blocks away - about +/-950 feet starts ok.  In an "open area" will do 1,000+.
