Has anybody ever done aftermarket door locks in a 2003 Focus?  I'm baffled to say the least.  All the door locks I have done have a solid cable between the manual switch and the lock mechanism.  The focus has a cable and it can't be attached to.

To make things worse; even if I could attach to the cable it's the same cable that operates the door latch.  I don't want it to unlatch the door when i unlock it.

Is there any way around this?

the secret lies in looking for anything that moves at the locks themselves, and then finding a way to tie in the movement of actuators to make that thing(s) move. usually using some 18 or 16 gauge stainless steel solid wire tied to the actuator will do the trick quite nicely.
i haven't done a 2003 focus myself, but many of the other newer vehicles such as toyota matrix and corolla work well with this method. i doubt that there's only one cable......i distinctly remember 2 separately moving items on the door of the focus.....the handle and the lock switch should be able to move indepently of each other. pulling the handle with the door locked however should result in unlocking the lock.

we had a post on here a while back and its was about a new toyota. it had cables instead of rods. someone had posted pictures of the install. I if remember right, they connected the rod from the motor to the plastic lock itself. i wish i would have saved the pics....i will try to find them for you....

Velocity Motors - YOU ROCK!!!!  That's exactly what I need to see!  I was taking it as go into the lock mechanism itself NOT to the lock switch itself.   draasch - you were right on too.  I couldn't think outside the box.  I'm excited now I want to go take my door panels off and get to dremmeling! 

You guys have no idea the frustration I went through trying to get the rod to actuate the lock mechanism itself (back by the latch).  I was pissin' in the wind because even if I would have gotten it to work it would have screwed up the opening of the door itself.
