I have a mercury switch in my trunk, its hooked up to the negative door trigger on my alarm. Why does it keep burning out?

Could I hook up the door trigger to the trunk light negative wire? Would that work and would i have to diode isolate it?

what unit do you have?????
most alarms have current sense, which should cover the trunk.
your best bet is to hardwire it with a pin switch....
Good Luck
