i recently purchased a 99 jeep cherokee sport with a pre installed dei remote start system, i dont have a manual for it and cant find the model number because the box under the seat for it is covered, i beleive it was installed with an activation toggle switch next to the hood opening latch( i know there is a toggle switch there, just dont know for sure what its for, im assuming its for the dei starter), anyway my problem is i am unable to get the starter to activate and/or do anything except the light on my remote will light up, anyone out there familiar with DEI and able to help me get it active????   have tried the switch on and off, and key in ignition and out, and in on/off/start positions with no result.

sounds like a 551 series RS unit...check both the 30 amp primary fuses at the relay satellite...when you push button 1 the parking lights should flash, once or twice depending even tho nothing else will happen...pressing both buttons together should start the vehicle....check the harnesses, fuses, etc.

i tried the buttons, both at once and just #1 like you guys recommended, and nothing happened, fuse sounds like a good bet... but where do i find that fuse? i know there is a box under the hood, and the fuse box in the dash on the passenger side, ill check them, if not them are there any fuses installed specifically for the unit?

ok i was stupid i guess... there are no 30 amp fuses inside in the dash, and i checked the 30's under the hood and they look fine... ( theyd be burnt inside and not continuous right?) should i look @ the 20's, 40's and 50's?

there will be a ribbon cable coming from the brain unit of  the Rs going to a bank of relays...the red primary wires on this relay bank are fused at 30 amps each...track down the relay satellite pack and check these fuses...
