2004 Toyota 4 Runner

I have been installing radios and car alarms for at least 10 years.  I have stopped doing this kind of work for about 5 years now and of course someone needs a favor from me.  How hard is it to install a remote start on a factory alarm for a 2004 Toyota 4-Runner.  Please let me know how difficult it would be so this way I can decide on weather or not to do it.  Thanksnismax97

shouldnt be too difficult if you know what you are doing... go slow and meter everything.... and make sure you use good quality bypass modules if neededKevin Gerry

if you are using the factory remotes for auto start,you save lots of time and it is not that difficult,you do need a transponder bypass kit an an extra ignition key for immobilizer bypass .

The Toyota wil need a bypass module ( universal bypass module key required ) and also here is the wiring information. Just remember that the OEM remote FOB's may not work after the car has started so just make sure that you test this out before hand and let your buddy know this. It's easier to do with an add-on system like you have, but you loose the convenience of the keyless entry when the car has started.Jeff

Yes I know.  I have had to go into the computers in the past and bypass this feature....  So its a 50/50 chance of the remotes not working after remote starting without bypassing something..nismax97

Yup, to see all you have to do is start the car and try to use the lock and unlock functions on the remote FOB. If it works, you have no problems, if it doesn't .............. well, then you have to do some funky wiring. I usualy just tell the customer that using an aftermarket system is easier for install anyways.Jeff
