Radar Sensor Question

I just finished my install of my Astra 777. I just used the radar sensor and not the radar and shock. However I mounted the radar sensor in my center console. I have contour SVT, the center console just lifts up from the back after you undo 2 screws. So I double-sided taped it to the inside of the console. But it only goes off if you move inside the car, I rolled down a window and waved my hand in and it chirps. However it wont go off on full sensitivity outside the car. 1. Is this a dual zone radar sensor? 2. Have you adjusted the out side perimeter to the correct level? If not, adjust the level to obtain the tripped intrusion level you desire. 3. Is the unit installed behind or near any metal? If so the radar dispersion field will be distorted and will not work consistantly or reliably. 4. You will have to test the sensors *attack* level as well to insure you are protected. 5. Make seasonal adjustments to compensate for temperature fluctuations. Regards EVIL Teken . . .

It is a dual zone. I have adjusted both many times, the only time it will go off is when an arm is put in the window. It is by a small metal brace but I moved it away and it still did it What are the sensors *attack* level? Thanks, -Matt

By the way, the connection was four wire, so I plugged it into the factory spot for the shock sensor. Could this be the problem? Possible not a relay? Thanks, -Matt

I should have waited for you to provide all the information you have above. If the sensor does indeed tripp only when the extreme of your arm is placed inside the cabin. Simply move the sensor, and test. That will determine the overall function and address the working operation of the sensor. Let us know. Regards EVIL Teken . . .

Ok I moved it out from under the console where it was next to a metal brace. I played with it around where the wire would reach and mounted it in the best place I decided. Inside sitting in the car now it goes off pretty much when anything moves. However with the exterior turned all the way up, it will go off when somone gets close to a window and moves around but thats about it. -Matt

If you have it mounted very low in the interior cabin, the doors and the surrounding metal frame will distort the radar field and reduce the overall coverage. You have several options in this. You can increase the mounting height, or have the sensor mounted inversely on the roof. There are pro's and con's to doing each. The ideal location is where it is as central as possible and not obstructed by any metal partions. You will have to remember that each brand / sensor maker has a dispersion field that radiates in their own pattern. Many are egg shaped, others are oblong in saturation. None of the makers can claim a complete 360' circle. So, you will have to do the tests which will show you what sort of coverage you have. Once again, you must test the sensor for the attack time, and duration. Regards EVIL Teken . . .
