locate the coils, on each coil there will be a common color.

if on the coils they all have RED / green wire then you would use the wire that is of a different color.

If we learn from each success and
each failure, then we can improve ourselves

One source of mine says it is the WHITE/ pink wire at the center plug behind the instrument cluster.
Another source says:
Diesel tach is a WHITE/ pink and the diesel wait to start wire is BLACK/ pink (-), this wire MUST be diode isolated from the instrument cluster to keep the battery from draining. Both wires are located at the PCM or can also be located in the main harness that runs on the inside of the firewall to the left of the brake pedal.
Another source says:
Tach Wire Is Located In A 40 Pin Connector Mounted On The Firewall Behind Driver Dash Next To Two Other 40 Pin Connectors.

Oh yeah be sure to measure the wire with a DMM before grabbing it. It should read roughly between 1 and 6 volts AC and increase when the gas pedal is depressed.

TACHOMETER|WHITE/ pink *6       |   |instrument cluster or *3
*3 Tach can also be located in the main harness that runs on the inside of the firewall to the left of the brake pedal.
*6 Diesel tach is a WHITE/ pink and the diesel wait to start wire is BLACK/ pink (-), this wire MUST be diode isolated from the instrument cluster to keep the battery from draining 'see direct fax document #1090'. Both wires are located at the PCM or can also be located in the main harness that runs on the inside of the firewall to the left of the brake pedal.
when using the diode put band towards PCM
PCM is located on the left side of fire wall.
