I'm installing a remote starter(Aladdin a-2000) on a 97 caravan, the instructions call for a diode to be placed for the courtesy lights...What exacly is a diode? I know the courtesy light on the caravan is neg and so is the r/s. What kind of DIode should I use? Radio SHack has over 30 types!

It also comes with a remote keyless entry, I know I need a 1500 Ohm resistor and a 250(or 249) ohm resistor. When I go to Radio shack they dont carry the 249 or 250 resistors....Can I Buy a 220 and (2) 15 ohm resistors, twist them together and them to the system would this work? What kind of resistors ie. 1% or 5% tolerance? voltages? amps?

The rest of the system seems to be working great, just need to fix the bugs,,....thanks!!!

Diodes restrict current flow ffrom going in a particular direction.  You can read about them on this site under the basics section.

yes you can add the resistors up to the value you need...put then end to end......a diode is a one way street.....
Good Luck

You may use a standard 1N4001 diode. It is rated for 50 volts, at 1 amp max.
